Corse matin - Zero waste: Brazilian-style organic fertilizers

In Corsica, as elsewhere, we know all about compost. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be interested in methods used abroad. That's what a young entrepreneur from Aléria has done, to introduce a new kind of "composter" to the region. A concept worth discovering!

At a time when the issue of waste management at source is more topical than ever, this seems a good time to take stock of composting. Composting is a virtuous process that not only reduces the volume of household waste, but also transforms organic matter from the kitchen into fertilizer for the garden. However, while it has its real qualities, the process can also have its share of shortcomings: decomposition time, odour nuisance, attractiveness to animals, etc. In short, constraints with which it must contend. In short, it's not always easy to deal with these constraints, especially if you don't live in a house. Of course, there are alternatives, some of which work perfectly in apartments. These include mechanical composters, Bokashi composters and worm composters, which are often more practical and discreet... But did you know that, on the other side of the Atlantic, there are machines capable of quickly and efficiently producing quality compost using a much less restrictive method?

Drawing inspiration from abroad

In Brazil, for example, over the past fifteen years or so, they have developed a concept of accelerated recyclers/valorizers that produce usable agricultural fertilizer in a maximum of just 15 hours, regardless of the organic matter poured in, even animal matter. This compares with several days, or even weeks, using traditional techniques. And the advantages don't stop there (see opposite).

In France, this "innovation" is still little-known, but it should soon be on the market. Starting with Corsica, on the Costa Verde to be precise, where Ivan Sanches, a young Brazilian Corso entrepreneur in his twenties from Aléria, has just imported the concept by representing his company "MainClean", said composters.

The idea came to me when I went to a restaurant in Brazil," he says. At the end of the meal, I was given a bag filled with organic soil improver. It was a way of making people aware of the issue of consumption and the environment. It interested me because I thought about Corsica and the problem we had with waste. So I asked around and discovered a Portuguese/Brazilian company that markets accelerated recyclers. I then set up my own company to represent them in Europe, and now I import and market the machines to sell them here and on the continent", concludes the young entrepreneur, who is also pursuing a degree in LEA (applied foreign languages) in Nice.
